8 News Now had cameras on Maryland Parkway, in only a matter of minutes, they caught several people cutting across the street, and not obeying the signals.

According to Metro Police, 14 people have died on valley road ways this year, triple the number for this time last year. In only 10 minutes, 8 News Now cameras had caught 20 people jaywalking across 6 lanes of traffic. A lot of people justify this by saying that there wasn’t any traffic so it didn’t matter.  With the rise of fatalities this year, hopefully people will start following the traffic signals more than judging the safety themselves.

Incidents from Last Weekend

Two people were killed in a 3-vehicle accident in Henderson on Sunset and Eastgate Rd. Saturday night in Henderson, a 68-year-old man and his 65-year-old passenger were killed in a three-vehicle wreck in Henderson. The accident took place at around 11:20 p.m. Saturday night on Sunset and Eastgate roads. The 68-year-old man was driving a 1995 Windstar minivan northbound on Eastgate Road when he struck a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Elfriede Cook, 76. According to reports, the minivan rolled onto its side and slide through the intersection into the path of a 2006 Hyundai Elantra drive by Mary Brooks, 18.

82-year-old Marilyn Burgard died as the result of a collision on Saturday morning. Burgard was killed after running a red light at a northwest Las Vegas intersection. The wreck happened at W. Cheyenne Avenue and N. Grand Canyon Drive.

U.S. 95 was shut down in both directions just before 4 a.m. due to a vehicle fire.  According to reports, a red Ford pickup truck was driving the wrong way on the freeway when it struck a Buick. The driver of the Buick was killed, a 55-year-old Las Vegas resident. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident.

A 60-year-old  woman was struck by a 2010 Nissan Altima driven by Mark Schaap, 41, while he was heading westbound on Sahara Avenue. He was driving through the intersection on a green light. The woman was crossing the intersection against the traffic signal. When she entered the right westbound travel lane, she was struck by the Nissan.
